Anti-Semitism Is Not Welcome Here
Edgewater Residents for Responsible Development and its members reject any form of implicit or explicit anti-Semitism.
We never have and never will traffic in anti-Semitic rhetoric and we denounce messages from any other persons or entities that promote or even suggest anti-Semitism.
Many active ERRD members are Jewish and we consider the Emanuel Congregation to be an honored member of our Community. It is our goal to identify a path for the Congregation to continue to thrive in Edgewater. But we oppose the Fern Hill Company’s massive lakefront redevelopment proposal because it will violate three long-standing parameters of responsible development for our Sheridan Road and our lakefront: Chicago’s 53 year-old Lakefront Protection Ordinance, the Illinois Public Trust Doctrine, and Sheridan Road’s 20 year old zoning regime designed to address severe traffic congestion.
We call on all Edgewater residents and organizations to work together to call-out anti-Semitic rhetoric whenever it arises. And we also call on everyone – including Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, her staff, and local and outside organizations --to respect our neighborhood concerns, to investigate the facts, and to reject unfounded and divisive labeling of legitimate community development concerns as anti-Semitic. Groundless claims of anti-Semitism such as these only serve to inflame division and undermine the important fight against genuine anti-Semitism.
